A word on Hot Topic & Hard Candy make up - it's not bad at all for cheap stuff. As I've gotten older I've become more concerned with buying things from fair-wage countries, as well as with general quality and animal testing concerns. Obviously, you are going to spend a pretty penny buying something that meets those requirements. I occasionally give in to my inner cheap skate (and inner 12 year old) and pick something up at Hot Topic or *gasp* Wal-Mart (my best friend works there...I walk in to say hi and BAM I'm in front of the Hard Candy display; it's the only thing I can't resist from there and to my knowledge they are the only store to carry it offline). The VERY cheap items supplement my growing collection of Tokidoki and Urban Decay. I haven't really been disappointed by anything I've sampled from either brand, considering my low expectations. The Hot Topic matte shadows are quite pigmented (although they migrate more than something pricier) and their colored liners aren't watery. I have a great red mascara from them as well I picked up for $1.99.  Hard Candy makes great liquid shadows, glitter liner and super slick lipgloss - all with staying power and non-offensive to the senses. No skimping on glitter either!  It's obviously not the quality of something they would carry at Sephora but it's equal to many dep't store brands but with a more alternative edge than they may offer. Definitely much better than dollar store/generic/ELF product.

So, I'm not big on the Hallmark Holiday, but my bf is a pretty awesome guy. This is coming from someone who has dated enough non-awesome guys to know. So I thought it would be fun to hit up local spot Mother's after work for V-Day. I got in my closet intending to go with something pretty and romantic. This was what I ended up with.

 Just a little something I threw on to be comfortable for a ten hour work day.

I'm disappointed my leggings didn't come out better - they are somewhat sheer with an opaque lacey diamond pattern. Very comfortable and warmer than tights.

 The rare occasion where I put up my hair in anything but pigtails. I need it cut and colored BADLY and have been too lazy to do it myself (I usually maintenance myself between visits to my stylist, which I only make maybe 4 or 5 times a year). I have just been dyeing my underlayer and bangs for convenience sake rather than my hold head, as my hair grows VERY fast and I don't want to deal with obvious roots. It was burnt orange with purplish-red streaks, but has faded to whatever this is, with a few pinkish threads.

Alright, so I already did one outfit post today, but they were from earlier in the week and this one is from TODAY! Haha! A little more old lady chic I'd say than what I've posted so far, but comfy. I'd like to add I'm not much of a smiler in pictures. I'm a terrible fake smiler AND I have big fat chimpmunk cheeks coupled with a small mouth so it's not pretty. I swear I'm not trying to make an aloof hipster face.

Not gonna lie - my make-up above is from yesterday. I'm a bad girl about that. Make-up below is done this morning after I took above photos - orangey lipgloss from Hard Candy, lilac eyeshadow from Claire's (oh yes, I used to buy a LOT of cheap make-up in those big pallettes when it was on sale and the penny pincher in me just can't throw it out even though the pigmentation and texture are crap compared to more expensive stuff), grey shadow from Urban Decay vegan pallette (Gunmetal methinks?), Urban Decay liquid liner in perversion. Photos are from my bedroom. I love this bodhisattva (below left), which I've had forever from a store whose name I can't remember. The mirror,candle holder and blue dish are thrifted. The vintage hanky was my grandmother's. The Ganesh is from Lilydale. The mirror on my dresser (right, below) was trash picked.
